Mikaila Tombe:

At the age of 19 Mikaila Tombe is in the midst of furthering her career as a singer songwriter in the music industry. Her shows provide an intimate setting as she conveys the feeling as if she is playing in your own living room. The BC raised artist is influenced by music that is raw and soulful. She is inspired by artists such as Etta James, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Esperanza Spalding because of their smooth vocals and infectious groove. Mikaila’s music is described as “naturally happy and upbeat – it makes you feel good without being blatant about it.”

Her new CD “Mikaila” was released this summer of 2015. The CD has an easy listening feel of jazz, folk, and R&B. It’s an upbeat impression while the combination of bluesy vocals and modern pop gives off a unique sound that you can listen to in the kitchen, on the road, or just while you’re having some down time. You can find her CD on iTunes, CD Baby, as well as Spotify. She recorded at Mountain View studio formerly known as Louis Lane Studios in Nanaimo, BC as well as DBBS in Victoria, BC. The CD has everything from full band with a horn section to just piano and vocals.

Mikaila has been playing at multiple venues for the last 5 years in Nanaimo, Vancouver, and Victoria. She plays with a handful of mentionable artists such as Nico Rhodes, Marisha Devoin, Alicia Murray, Erin Burton and Marty Shepard who also played on her CD. Some of her past experiences include teaching music workshops at “Headliners” with Doug Dodd, where she works with students to find their sound and work on stage presence as well as vocal technique. She is no stranger to charitable functions in the community as she recently performed at the Child’s Development Telethon for the second year in a row. This summer of 2015 she had the privilege of singing the theme song for the BC Summer Games for an audience of over 8000 people. Mikaila is currently attending Nimbus School of Recording & Media where she is taking music business to further her knowledge in the industry and how to take the next step in her career.

Mikaila’s CD has something different for every listener, whether you like easy listening upbeat groove, a bluesy feel with a big horn section, or if you just want to hear soulful vocals and piano. You can find her music on iTunes, CD Baby and Spotify. As she attends Nimbus School of Recording & Media she continues to write and play shows as well as teach workshops in her spare time. Her music has a light happy feeling to it as it spans over a spectrum of genres jazz, folk, and R&B. She says the influence of different styles on the CD came from not just herself, but the musicians she was working with as “they all had their own unique style and they each brought a different component.” Mikaila looks forward to what’s next and hopes to be able to share it with you.
